Personal Care Kits

Lutheran World Relief

Personal Care Kits
Personal Care Kits offer comfort and care to those who need it most.
Often, when natural disasters strike or when war drives families from their homes, our hearts ache with compassion, but we don’t know how to help. Making a Lutheran World Relief (LWR) Personal Care Kit is a simple, fun, tangible, and significant way to offer comfort to those suffering and express love to our neighbors in need. Currently there is a great need for these kits in Eastern Europe for individuals—mostly women and children—displaced from their homes in Ukraine. LWR Personal Care Kits help people with their hygiene needs and therefore provide dignity and hope in the direst situations.

EACH PERSONAL CARE KIT INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING (all new items, please)    Directions also available online here

• ONE light-weight bath-size towel (between 20” x 40” and 52” x 27”), dark
color recommended
• TWO or three bath-size bars of soap equaling 8 to 9 oz., any brand, in original
• ONE adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging
• ONE sturdy comb, remove packaging
• ONE metal nail clippers (attached file optional), remove packaging

TO PACK YOUR PERSONAL CARE KITS: Fold the towel in half. Place the rest of the items in the towel, fold and roll so nothing falls out, and secure with yarn,
ribbon, string or rubber bands.

A sample Personal Care Kit is displayed in the Gathering Area.

Aid to Ukrainian Refugees

Lutheran Disaster Response

Aid to Ukrainian Refugees
through Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR)

Millions of Ukrainians, mostly women and children, have left their country for safety in other Eastern European countries, or are displaced from their homes within Ukraine. Lutheran Disaster Response is accompanying our companions in Ukraine, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, as well as such ecumenical partners as The Lutheran World Federation and Church World Service, in their humanitarian responses to the crisis created by Russia’s war against Ukraine. These partners provide refugees with immediate support and supplies such as food, blankets, water, shelter, and hygiene kits (see Personal Care Kits project). They also offer protection and safeguarding of vulnerable individuals and groups, gender justice and the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse, psychosocial care, and pastoral support. Please pray for those in Ukraine, Russia and neighboring countries that have been affected by the war in Ukraine. May God’s healing presence give them peace and hope in their time of need. Gifts designated for the crisis in Eastern Europe will be used entirely (100%) to provide support for people impacted by conflict in the region.

Swing Project

Kandete Parish in Tanzania

Swings for Kandete Parish in Tanzania
The Kandete Parish, our sister congregation, is looking for new ways to reach out to the children in their village. They have asked if we would sponsor the building of swings for their local children. The Parish Sunday School children would also benefit. Another outreach effort they are planning is to open a kindergarten for the community in their Sunday School building. Orphans will have priority in admission with no fees. The swings will be used by these kindergarten children as well. We would like to raise $300 to help them build a lasting outreach to their local community. Any additional funds will be designated for other play area needs such as soccer balls.
