God’s Work. Our Hands.
The ELCA designated September 8th as “God’s Work, Our Hands” Sunday. This day is an opportunity to celebrate who we are – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.
Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.
This year, St. Luke supported the Power Packs Program to demonstrate “God’s Work, Our Hands.
Weekly, Power Packs provides 2 breakfast items, 2 lunch, 2 fruits, 2 snacks , a milk and a juice. This past Saturday and Sunday, our combined efforts to collect food from the communities close by and from members of the congregation was very successful! We were able to collect breakfast for 152 children, lunch for 100 children, fruit cups for 134 children, applesauce for 157 children , snacks for 300 children, and juice for 21 children. Currently our number is 63 children at 3 schools so this food will last for a while. We expect that number to increase as permission slips are returned to guidance counselors to enroll in the program.
Last year we provided 85 Power Packs per weekend. Good work St. Luke!
Thank you to all who participated.
