Social Ministry Committee – Diaper Project

St. Luke has been collecting diapers for babies and their moms receiving services at Pregnancy Ministries, Inc. (PMI) in Chambersburg for twenty-five or so years.  PMI is a resource center for women electing to give birth in spite of economic and social challenges in making this choice.  Pregnancy and STD testing, education about pregnancy and infant care, referrals for community services, material support for maternity and baby needs, and other services are offered free of charge.

One program, Earn While You Learn, teaches clients about pregnancy and fetal development, labor and delivery, infant care, and healthy choices. As they meet one on one with a trained volunteer, issues and concerns specific to their needs can be discussed.  Clients earn “Baby Bucks” by attending these classes and use them to purchase items they need.  These items (both new and gently used), donated by individuals and churches in the community, include such things as maternity/baby clothing, baby furniture, formula, diapers, etc.  Over the years our St. Luke congregation has donated diapers to help the babies served by PMI get a good start in life.

The St. Luke Social Ministry Committee has chosen the month of October to be a designated time of support for the Pregnancy Ministries, Inc. of Chambersburg, by collecting and donating diapers for local mothers and babies who are in need of these items.

Diapers of all sizes are needed.  Your donation may be placed in the designated container near the keypad door anytime during the month of October.

The St. Luke Diaper Project has been a passion of Bob Losee over the years.  He just celebrated his 96th birthday on Sunday, September 23.  A gift of diapers to the babies would be a wonderful gift for Bob.
